Recently Piperbloom was asked to plan and coordinate a Fire Starter Session with Danielle LaPorte at the new contemporary lounge of LEVEL Furnished Living for 20 formidable women entrepreneurs from British Columbia.  This think tank session focused on self-realization, recognizing potential, surfacing opportunities and entrepreneurial time management. Some powerful questions included: What drives your economic engine?  What can you automate?  Who can you involve to create content, drive your authentic voice, and capitalize on your strengths?  What a night!

But, it wasn’t all work and no play.  The evening began and ended as it should – sipping fine wine, noshing delectable tapas and desserts and connecting with old and new friends.

Destination weddings inspire short dress trend

Vancouver couture and bridal designer Manuel Mendoza and his associate Alison Hartford are experts at spotting the trends and even leading them.  This season they report that one of the biggest trends is the short dress.  Manuel says that the trend in short dresses has doubled recently, accounting for about 20 per cent of the dresses he custom designs now compared to 10 per cent two years back and attributes it to the increase in destination weddings.

He also adds that destination weddings have influenced the fabrics we see in modern gowns.  Chiffon really appeals to brides who imagine their dress blowing in the breeze at their ocean front ceremony.

We love this season’s line-up of short dresses and have highlighted a few of our favourites from local designer Manuel Mendoza along with some classics from Carolina Herrera and Romona Keveza.

2010 Olympics

For the past week we’ve been out and about enjoying all the Olympic festivities in our beautiful City.    We couldn’t have asked for better weather to showcase Vancouver and Whistler.   It’s been amazing!

We’re also happy to report that one of our partner venues (Fairmont Pacific Rim) is now fully operational.  They opened just a week prior to the Olympics and have been going non-stop since ever since.  Of course,  I had to stop in to say “hi”, get a view of the Olympic cauldron (which is right across the street from them) and enjoy a few drinks and appies in the lounge.  Very nice!
